Travel documents

Depending on your destination, certain travel documents are essential: identity card, passport, visa…Without them, boarding and/or entry into the country may be refused.

Always check with your airline or travel agency before you leave.

Domestic flights (France)

  • Valid ID required : national identity card or passport.
  • Some companies sometimes accept a driver's license: always check the requirements on your ticket or on the company's website.
  • For children who are accompanied, an identity document will be required.

International flights

  • A passport is required.
  • Depending on your destination, a visa may be required. Consult your travel agency, airline, or the travel advice website.

Check the validity of your documents

  • Since January 2014, the French national identity card is valid for 15 years (10 years for old cards, automatically extended by 5 years).
  • Some countries do not recognize this extension. To avoid any problems, it is best to travel with a valid passport.
  • Check the required validity and formalities on the official websites: Service-Public or France Diplomatie.
